Watching the Snow

Such a peaceful feeling in our home on snowy days.  I get a batch of hot chocolate made and we just watch the snow fall in the backyard.

A soft white cottony blanket covers everything.  It is quiet and beautiful.  Then the boys get all their gear on and get to play in it.

Warm baths to follow, taco soup and cornbread, and a board game.

There is nothing better than being stuck inside on a snowy day... unless dad comes home for lunch, wink wink

You are Never too Old for Play Dough!

I wanted to make sure I recorded this recipe for play dough because it was so simple, smelled amazing, and was super soft.  Plus the boys loved it!

2 parts corn starch
1 part conditioner (we used white rain)

That's it!  Hours of fun!

Rodeo Time!

We put on our cowboy accents and met Justin's parents at the Denver Rodeo to watch some amazing bull riding.

I LOVE a good rodeo and this one did not disappoint.  The boys got their snow cones and that always seems to help them cheer better- wink, wink.

Our favorite part was a group of kids that did all sorts of tricks on the horses.  They rode backwards, on the side of the horse, on two at a time, and FAST!

There was a lot of energy in the arena and the cowboys held on for dear life!

Nuggets Game with Dad!

Justin was able to take the boys to a Nuggets game.  I asked him to write down a few things about the night so here it is....

"One Snowy night the boys and I got tickets to go see the Nuggets play at the Pepsi Center.  We decided to take the train down there because the roads were slick and it was snowing.

We all loved it!

On the way there the train ride was fun because we got to hang out play games and see the passing traffic outside.

When we got to the Pepsi Center we went in and got to go to the club level seating!  Totally fun because we had our own person waiting on us.  Since we never get to sit there, we decided to order a couple of things. Whats better than a sierra mist and cheesy salted pretzel to watch the game?

We watched the game and just had fun, they threw shirts and other prizes, but we were up to high to catch any of it.  We also got to see the Nuggets Mascot Rocky do some really cool tricks out on the court.  He did flips and dunks and all sorts of stuff.

We wrapped up the night by going by the nuggets store. We took a look around and found something really fun to buy.  We ended up getting each of the boys a nuggets mini basketball!  Always need another ball around the house!

On the way home we got on the train then at the interchange to go down to the mineral station we almost froze waiting fro the train, but we made it back to our car safe and sound.

Then more fun began!

On the way home it was snowing so bad that we could barely see right in front of us.  I had to drive down the middle of Ken Caryl looking off to the side because it was complete white out in front of us!  We were a little scared, but after some prayers and safe skilled driving on my part, hahaha, we made it home safe and sound!

Overall, it was a great adventure, total blast, and the best part was spending time with Nathan and Kendall!

Love those boys!"

Monsters Under the Bed

At first when I went to check on the boys before heading off to bed, I was a little disturbed when I found Kendall sleeping like this:

Then I began to laugh at this little boys' imagination.  Not in a million years would I have been able to fall asleep with all those stuffed animals hanging out in my bed like that.

New Years Eve Celebration 2014

Seven bright blue balloons were labeled with a time- the top of each hour. When the clock struck the hour, we took turns popping the balloons with Justin's blow dart gun.

The darts smoothly blew out of the hollow barrel with a wet click and would sail through the air and instantaneously pierce a balloon.  The balloon would burst open and a little note would fly out.  The boys would scramble to get the note and read it contents.

The night went a bit like this....

Mammy and Papa came over to get the night going.

Pre warm up- Remote control helicopter training.  By far a favorite Christmas gift was getting plenty of use.

6:00- Pizza dinner

7:00- Balloon animals and balloon volleyball in the living room

8:00- Make corn flake wreaths.  These were made with cornflakes, marshmallows, a bit of butter, and red hots.  Super yummy!

9:00- Family Movie but really the boys continued playing balloon volleyball.

10:00- Make homemade bouncy balls. This was really fun and worked a ton better than I thought.  I got the kit at Hobby Lobby.

11:00- Dance Party!

12:00- Watch the ball drop on TV.  Side note: The costumes the performers wore were so immodest that Justin had to keep changing the channel and we completely missed the ball dropping!  It turned out to be pretty funny!

Under the Tree Lights....

December by far is one of the busiest months of the year but there is always room to fit in a Christmas Tree sleepover.

The boys had a huge pile of books they read and stayed up a bit too long and got louder and louder. The excitement of the season was getting to them.  We threatened to send them back to their bedrooms if they could not settle down but instantly they forced themselves into a calm state and eventually fell asleep dreaming of sugar plum fairies and all things Christmas.

Christmas Cookies

Mammy hosted her annual Christmas cookie decorating session.  While we were busy with the cookies Dad and Papa took advantage of the gorgeous weather and strung up  lights on the outside of their house
.
Nathan was so speedy that he had finished up with his cookies and decided to watch a Christmas movie downstairs while the die hard decorators finished up the batches.  Lots of gooey green frosting and sprinkles made its was onto soft sour cream trees. Yum- Seriously, nothing compares to Mammy's soft sour cream cookie recipe.

Chatfield Botanic Gardens

Do you know who always has something up their sleeve?  Mammy!

She was able to get us free tickets to the lights at the Chatfield Botanic Gardens.

We blind folded the boys and drove them to the surprise lights.  When they took of the blind folds, they gasped.

We walked through the lit park and enjoyed every second!

I'm pretty sure our favorite part was getting warm while touring the oldest house this side of Chatfield.

(look close, I'm pretty sure there are two boys peeking out)
